Privacy Policy
Spotty Privacy Policy
Spotty helps you save kite spots, evaluate weather conditions, publish anonymous Discover spots, and receive condition alerts.
Controller And Contact
The Spotty app operator is responsible for the app account data and backend data described here. For privacy questions, access requests, deletion help, or other data-rights requests, contact support@spotty.murri.me.
Data We Collect
- Account data such as email address, Firebase account identifier, sign-in provider, and account state.
- Location data when you allow location access, including precise device location used to center the map, calculate Discover distance, and sync notification distance filters.
- Spot data such as saved spot names, exact coordinates, wind settings, tide settings, copied spot references, and public Discover status.
- Notification data such as FCM device token, timezone, alert times, score threshold, and delivery preferences.
- Discover safety data such as votes, copies, reports, hidden spots, and anonymous contributor blocks.
- Diagnostics such as sanitized logs and Firebase Crashlytics crash reports.
How We Use Data
- Operate the app, authenticate accounts, keep sessions secure, and prevent abuse.
- Save spots, calculate forecast scores, show nearby Discover spots, and support map/geocoding features.
- Send condition notifications when you enable them and keep notification delivery accurate.
- Moderate Discover reports, enforce Community Guidelines, and protect users from abusive or unsafe content.
- Debug crashes, investigate reliability issues, and protect the backend from misuse.
Legal Bases Where Required
Where privacy law requires a legal basis, Spotty processes data to provide the service you request, to protect the security and integrity of the app, to comply with legal obligations, and, for optional permissions such as location and notifications, based on your choices in the app and operating system settings.
Public Discover Content
When you publish a spot, its name and exact coordinates become visible in Discover. Other users can copy it. Discover remains anonymous: Spotty does not show contributor names, emails, account IDs, or profile data in the app.
Third-Party Services
Spotty uses Firebase Auth, Firebase App Check, Firebase Messaging, Firebase Crashlytics, Mapbox, and Open-Meteo. These providers process data needed for authentication, app integrity, notifications, diagnostics, maps, geocoding, and weather forecasts. Data may be processed in countries outside your own, depending on those providers' infrastructure and your location.
Sharing
Spotty does not sell personal data and does not use personal data for third-party advertising. Data is shared only with service providers needed to run the app, with other users when you intentionally publish Discover content, when needed for security or abuse prevention, or when required by law.
Retention
- Account, saved spot, settings, notification, and private location data are kept while your account exists and are removed from active backend tables when you delete your account.
- Public Discover content remains public until you unpublish it, delete the spot, or delete your account.
- Limited Discover moderation records may be retained after account deletion only when needed for safety, abuse prevention, dispute handling, or audit integrity.
- Operational logs and crash diagnostics are kept only as long as needed for reliability, security, and debugging, subject to the retention controls of the logging and Firebase services used.
Account Deletion
You can delete your account in the app under Settings, Danger Zone, Delete account. Deletion removes account data, Firebase Auth sign-in access, saved spots, settings, notification preferences, FCM token, and user-linked private data from active backend tables. If you cannot access the app, use the public deletion page or email support.
Your Choices And Rights
- You can deny or revoke location and notification permissions in your device settings.
- You can unpublish Discover spots, report content, hide individual spots, and hide anonymous contributors.
- You can request access, correction, deletion, export, restriction, or objection where these rights apply under your local law.
Children
Spotty is not directed to children. Do not use Spotty if you are below the minimum age required to consent to digital services in your country or region.
Policy Updates
Spotty may update this policy when the app, providers, or legal requirements change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date on this page.
